Join us on Sunday, April 1, 2018, at 10 a.m. to hear and discuss this sermon. Learn more about our Sunday Services. Many of the popular holidays we think of today as Christian in origin—including Easter, April Fool’s Day, Halloween, and Christmas—can be traced back thousands of years to ancient pagan traditions and elements. Deeply aware of the natural world, early Pagan cultures honored and celebrated nature as a divine force. Harmony UU member Karen Gottschall explores connections between Christianity and Pagan celebrations, such as Easter’s roots in spring equinox rituals, and April Fool’s Day’s origins in a 16th-century Pope’s decree of the new calendar system.
